The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team has made 14 consecutive appearances in the SUNYAC finals, but with only four championships in those years it is hoping to get back on top this weekend.

Head coach
Rob Bruley has prepared his team for this weekend all season long and hopes to put the finishing touches on a great season come Monday morning. "This week we've been spending a lot of time on our mental and athletic game just to make sure that we are conditioned and in the right frame of mind," said Bruley

The Hawks will start off the tournament against Oswego State on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. If the Hawks advance past the Lakers they will take on the winner of Fredonia State and SUNY Cortland on Sunday at noon. The championship will take place Monday at 10:00 a.m.

The Geneseo Knights have won the last six titles, but SUNY New Paltz senior captain
Carol Tyson thinks this year's team is more ready than ever to get back on top. "Our practices the past two weeks have been a lot more intense," said Tyson. "We've been focusing tremendously on doubles with a lot of volley and overhead work."

Doubles play has been the focus all year for the Hawks after dropping all three doubles matches in the finals last year. The doubles lineup has seen a few different combinations, but this weekend will show if all the hard work has paid off.

"I'm looking forward to a very tough tournament where I know that we can have three days of good competition," said Bruley. "I'm sure that we're going into the tournament mentally ready to click and also physically prepared to play our best tennis."
