Ithaca, NY— The State University of New York at New Paltz fell 5-2 too Ithaca College Wednesday afternoon.
"In what turned out to be our longest match of the season, 4.5 hour, we came up short losing 2-5 in some big hitting long baseline rallies" says head coach
Rob Bruley. "Highlight of the doubles match was the continued winning streak of Genzone and Gabriel. With this win they set a new school record for most wins at 3rd doubles in a season. With us going into the singles matches needing to win 4 out of the 6 matches both Gabriel at #6 and Krol at #5 both won their singles matches."
"This spring season has really challenged our program, and I know we will be stronger after playing some very strong Nationally ranked teams and a number of Division II programs. We are now all looking forward to Mondays draw for the NCAA National Championship brackets and to have the opportunity to compete at the highest level of Division III tennis."
Doubles: Sam Ostrander and
Justine Stanejko played first doubles falling in their match 6-3.
Patrycja Filonik and
Olivia Kunz played second doubles and fell 6-1.
Nina Genzone and
Angelica Gabriel won their match defeating the Ithaca third doubles pair 7-6.
Singles: Stanejko played first singles falling 6-0 in her first set and 6-4 in the second. Ostrander played second singles falling 6-4 in the first set and 7-6 in the second set.
Sydney Sladicka played third singles falling 6-3 in both sets. Filonik played fourth singles falling 6-3 in the first set and 6-2 in the second.
Krol played fifth singles falling winning her match with a 6-0 first set and a 7-6 seond set. Gabriel also won her match, earning the first set 6-3 and the second 6-0.
The Hawks head home to host the New Paltz Tournament and celebrate Senior Day, Saturday May 2.
