Binghamton, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team clinched their 15
th consecutive SUNYAC championship appearance with a 5-0 victory over SUNY Cortland in today's semifinal matchup.
Lindsay Haley and
Jenna Grandville got the match off to a great start for the Hawks as they won convincingly at third doubles 8-0.
The other two matches didn't go as smooth for SUNY New Paltz, but they were able to pull out two close matches to head into singles play with a 3-0 lead.
Courtney Koran and
Emi Lewis were able to win at second doubles 8-5 while
Brittany Grandville and
Carol Tyson battled to a 9-7 win at first doubles.
The Hawks only needed two more points to advance to their 15
th straight SUNYAC finals. Koran and
Victoria Zezula were the ones to take the winning points as Koran won at fourth singes 6-3, 6-0 and Zezula took sixth singles 6-1, 6-2.]
"We had another strong performance today," said head coach
Rob Bruley. "It was a slow start in doubles, but the team really showed their dominance in singles play."
SUNY New Paltz will take on the winner of SUNY Geneseo and SUNY Oneonta on Monday at 10:00 a.m.
"We're looking forward to going full out in the final and making sure that we leave it all out on the court," said Bruley.
