Oneonta, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team came away with a victory against Hartwick College on Saturday afternoon, while the men were unable to oust the opposing Hawks.
SUNY New Paltz's women came out on top by a score of 158-122, while the men fell by a score of 113-167. The men battled despite not having a good chunk of the team present at the meet.
"We were missing a few guys due to things such as illnesses and other sports," Hawks head coach
Tom Eickelberg said. "That's always hard to overcome. But our leaders came through and we had some great contributions nonetheless."
The women won 11 of their events, including freshman
Lindsay Kranitz's first collegiate victory in the 100-yard breaststroke (1 minute, 11.87 seconds).
"Our newcomers, such as
Lindsay Kranitz, really impressed me today," Eickelberg said.

Kaleigh O'Halloran.
Senior
Megan Joseph contributed with a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:38.84).
"The women were great today," Eickelberg said. "They rose to the challenge and were a true team. We needed our strong swimmers to win a bunch of events, and that's exactly what happened."
On the men's side, the Hawks won seven of their events, including their first of the day. The quartet of seniors
Caleb Treadwell and
Chad Plante, and sophomores
