It's the biggest match of the year for the State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team this Friday as they take on SUNY Oneonta. It's the final match of the year for the Hawks before SUNYAC Championships and the winner will take the one seed in the East Division.
Â
The Red Dragons are currently undefeated standing at an impressive 9-0, but head coach
Rob Bruley and the Hawks are prepared to hand them their first loss of the year of the year.
Â
"We are really looking forward to a tough match," said Bruley. "We have prepared well all week and I'm hoping for a very high level tennis match."
The Hawks are coming off a 1-1 weekend where they fell to Geneseo 7-2 but swept Brockport 9-0. Highlighting the weekend play was Freshmen
Courtney Koran, who went 2-0 at fourth singles, and Senior
Carol Tyson and Junior
Lindsay Haley who teamed up at third doubles and went undefeated on the weekend. Koran received the SUNYAC Singles Player of the Week while Tyson and Haley garnered Doubles Team of the Week.
Â

Koran currently stands at 5-0 in singles play and is a part of the strong depth that the Hawks bring to every match. The depth that SUNY New Paltz brings to every match is partnered with senior leadership at the top of lineup in
Brittany Grandville and
Carol Tyson.
Â
"Our match against Oneonta is key in preparing for SUNYAC's next weekend," said Tyson. "I know they're coming after us but this week we've stepped up the intensity of our practices and everyone top to bottom is looking extremely solid."
Â
The Red Dragons have dominated opponents all year, only dropping four matches all year (four to Geneseo and one to Oswego). The Hawks are looking to challenge Oneonta at every position and end the winning streak.
Â
"Strong net play during doubles is crucial to earn those points and consistency in our singles play are the keys to winning the match," said Tyson.
Â
The Hawks host the Red Dragons in their third home match of the season at 5:30 p.m. and have a rain site backup at Match Point Tennis in Goshen, NY.
