ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The No. 2 State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team completed a 4-0 showing in the Nazareth Golden Flyer Invitational on Saturday, collecting a pair of 3-0 wins against No. 14 Rivier and Medaille.
The Hawks improve to 9-2 overall this season and travel back to the Hawk Center tomorrow for a Super Bowl Sunday tri-match in their home opener, hosting Alderson Broaddus and St. Joseph's Long Island. The Battlers are coached by Mike Fink '10 and the Eagles are assisted by
Chris Lilley '16.
In the day's first match, New Paltz took care of Rivier in straight sets, 25-18, 25-22, 25-16. In the conclusion, the Hawks also defeated the Mavericks cleanly, 25-17, 25-19, 25-23.
Against the Raiders, senior
Jake Roessler (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led the team with 11 kills (.429) and junior
Anthony Bonilla (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) followed with 10 kills. Freshman setter
Matthew Grace (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) paced the offense with 34 assists and chipped in six digs.
Versus the Mustangs, sophomore
Bradley Schneider (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) led the attack with nine executions (.357) while Grace collected 20 assists and five service aces. Sophomore
Nick Smith (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) aided with 11 helpers of his own.
