No. 2 Men’s Volleyball Enjoys 3-0 Win Over Ramapo

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Four players finished with at least eight kills as the No. 2 State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team defeated visiting Ramapo College 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-18) on Wednesday evening inside the Hawk Center.

Junior outside hitter Anthony Bonilla (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) and sophomore outside hitter Bradley Schneider (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) both tallied 10 kills apiece while junior middle blocker Ryan Cole (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) and senior middle blocker Steven Woessner (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) enjoyed nine and eight kills, respectively.

Freshman setter Matthew Grace (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) dished out a match-high 39 assists while freshman libero Robert Nolan (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) notched a team-best eight digs. Bonilla tallied seven digs while Woessner led the Hawks with four service aces.

For the Roadrunners (7-2), Justin Feigeles led the team with eight kills while Mikhael Erushalimski distributed 21 assists.

The first set was all New Paltz as the Hawks cruised to a 13-7 lead. Grace received the serve and the Hawks rattled off a 7-0 spurt to take a commanding 20-7 lead and were able to close out the opener 25-14.

Ramapo battled in the second set with the score knotted at 15-all. New Paltz enjoyed a 4-0 run thanks to two aces by Bonilla to claim a 19-15 lead. Ahead by one, 23-22, the Hawks used a pair of kills by Bonilla to take a 2-0 match lead.

Clinging to a slim 8-7 lead in set number three, New Paltz answered with a 6-2 run to take a 14-9 advantage. The Roadrunners were able to get within four on two occasions but the Hawks remained stout and were able to end the match, using a Nick Denoncourt (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) ace and Jake Roessler (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa)  kill in the stretch run.

The Hawks improve to 12-2 overall and will head out to Erie, Pa. for the first UVC matches of the season on Saturday, taking on No. 9 NYU and host Penn State Behrend.
