NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Senior middle blocker
C.J. Borfitz (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) tallied a season-high 14 kills to lead the No. 2 State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team past No. 10 Hunter 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon in the Hawk Center.
Borfitz's 14 kills were one shy of tying his career-best mark of 15 executions, set during his freshman season against Bard (Feb. 15, 2014).
With the win, New Paltz improves to 21-4 overall and will prepare to host No. 4 Vassar on Wednesday, March 29 at 7 p.m. for Senior Night. The Hawks' four seniors – Borfitz,
Steven Woessner,
Steve Gassert and
Jake Roessler – will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
Also, tomorrow afternoon (Sunday, March 26), members of the 2016 National Championship team will be honored at halftime of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball East Regional Final at Madison Square Garden in New York City (Tip-off at 2:20 p.m. between No. 4 seed Florida & No. 7 seed South Carolina).
Borftiz hit .684 (14-1-19) and provided five total blocks, two digs and one ace. Freshman
Nick O'Malley (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) finished with nine kills (.438) as did Roessler (.438). Junior
Anthony Bonilla (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) floored seven kills in the win.

Matthew Grace (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) distributed a match-high 45 assists and freshman libero
Robert Nolan (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) paced the defense with nine digs. Overall for the match, New Paltz hit .459.
After the Vassar match on Wednesday, the Hawks conclude the regular season with a UVC tri-match at Stevens with Nazareth on Saturday, April 1 followed by a showdown at No. 1 Springfield on Wednesday, April 5.
The 2017 UVC Tournament will be held from April 13-15 at the No. 1 overall seed, which is yet to be determined.
