POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Senior middle blocker
Jake Roessler (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) floored a match-high 14 kills to lift the No. 4 State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team past No. 12 MIT 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-23) in the United Volleyball Conference quarterfinals on Thursday evening, hosted by Vassar College.
With the victory, the Hawks improve to 23-7 overall and will prepare to face No. 2 and No.1 seed Vassar tomorrow in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. New Paltz fell to Vassar 3-2 on March 29 at home despite jumping out to a 2-0 lead. The Engineers end their season at 20-10 overall.
This will be the fifth-straight year that New Paltz has participated in the UVC semifinals.
For the match, the Hawks hit .266, including a .320 mark in the second stanza. New Paltz limited MIT to a .071 hitting percentage and 21 errors.
Roessler's line was 14-4-24 (.417) while also providing two block assists and three digs. Senior middle blocker
Steven Woessner (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) also hit .417 and finished with six kills, three block assists, three digs and two assists.
Junior outside hitter
Anthony Bonilla (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) provided seven kills and freshman setter
Matthew Grace (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) distributed a match-high 32 assists, four block assists and three aces.

Robert Nolan (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) defended a match-high 16 digs while freshman middle blocker
Nick O'Malley (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) floored five kills (.364) while providing four block assists.
