No. 4 Men’s Volleyball Set to Face Kean in NCAA First Round

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – For the fourth-straight season, the men's volleyball program at the State University of New York at New Paltz has reached the NCAA Division III Tournament and will head to Kean University on Saturday, April 22 at 4 p.m. in a first-round match.

The winner of the match will play Vassar on Friday, April 28 in the NCAA quarterfinals held at host Springfield College.

The Hawks advanced to the UVC title match but fell to NYU in five sets… New Paltz defeated MIT in the quarterfinals and host Vassar in the semifinals to reach the championship bout… Senior Jake Roessler floored 14 kills (.417) against MIT and enjoyed a career-high 22 kills on 49 swings against Vassar… Versus NYU, Roessler recorded 18 kills… Both Roessler and senior Steven Woessner were named to the All-Tournament Team… New Paltz won at Kean 3-0 back on Feb. 23… In the match, junior Anthony Bonilla had 10 kills (.467) while sophomore Bradley Schneider and Woessner both floored eight kills each… The Hawks are led by 11th-year head coach Radu Petrus.

The Cougars just won their sixth-straight Skyline Conference title… Counting the playoffs, Kean has won 76-straight Skyline matches… Kean has won every Skyline title since 2011 and is one of only two schools to qualify for the NCAA Tournament in all the years it has been held… Freshman Ian Cap was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Skyline Tournament… Capp finished the title match against Mount Saint Vincent with 38 assists, three aces and three blocks… The Cougars are led by fourth-year head coach Charlie Ginex.
