NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Playing their final home dual match of the 2017 spring season, the women's tennis team at the State University of New York at New Paltz defeated visiting Union 7-2 on Saturday morning at North Tennis Courts.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 10-6 overall and will head to Nichols on Wednesday, April 12 at 3:30 p.m. in Dudley, Mass. The Dutchwomen, meanwhile, fall to 5-6 overall.
Starting the day in doubles competition, junior
Brittany Grandville (Tappan, N.Y./Tappan Zee) and senior
Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) won at flight two, 8-6. Sophomore
Lindsay Haley (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and freshman
Victoria Zezula (Ridgewood, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) were victorious at flight three, 8-4.
In singles action, Ammirati enjoyed the flight one win, 6-3, 6-2. Junior
Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Rhinebeck) was victorious at flight three, 6-1, 6-2 while junior
Emi Lewis (New York City, N.Y./NYC Lab School) picked up the flight four win, 6-4, 6-0.
Zezula earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at flight five while freshman
Jessica Reich (Edgewater, N.J./Leonia) enjoyed a 7-6, 6-2 win at flight six to complete the wins for New Paltz on Saturday.
