Box Score Annandale-On-Hudson, NY – Despite totaling 12 shots against Bard College Wednesday, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team couldn't garner enough dangerous opportunities on frame, which hindered its chances for an equalizer down the stretch after getting down a goal early in the first half against the Raptors. And ultimately, it allowed Bard (4-1) to walk away with the, 2-0 victory.
"A lot of credit goes to Bard," said Hawks coach Mike Eckberg. "They were difficult to breakdown and did well with their opportunities in the attack. We were impatient on the ball and lacked a lot of composure all around."
Avalon Qian put the Raptors on the board in the 14
th minute after knocking in a touch by teammate Carla Sanchez off a throw in. Qian added an insurance goal about five minutes into the second half, putting away a rebound off a header from a free kick about 35 yards out.
SUNY New Paltz (2-3) registered two shots on target, while the Raptors notched six out of 17 total shots, which each team earned four corners in the game.
Danielle Grossi and
Gabriela Cabello led the Hawks offensively, totaling three shots each on the day, while
Katelyn Cordero got the start in net and tallied four saves on the other end.
SUNY New Paltz is back home Friday and Saturday to continue its non-conference play against John Jay College and Manhattanville College at 4 and 4:30 p.m., respectively.
