SUNY New Paltz Women's Soccer GAME PREVIEW: The College at Brockport and SUNY Geneseo

| By:
The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team has a tough road trip looming against The College at Brockport and nationally ranked SUNY Geneseo Sept. 29 and 30, respectively. But the Hawks feel as though if they give the Golden Eagles and Knights their best game, they will come out of the weekend with a positive result.

"We've been working really hard," said SUNY New Paltz freshman midfielder Taylor Filippone. "If we continue to play our game, playing to feet, playing on the ground, switching the ball, I think we can see positive results."

The Hawks (4-6) played admirably in their previous two games against Oswego State and SUNY Cortland, but unfortunately the result on the scoreboard did not reflect the play on the field. They realize no matter how well they play in the midfield they need to take advantage of more opportunities on the offensive end and limit mistakes inside their own defensive third.

"Some key things we've been going over is transition from defense to offense," Filippone said. "We have been kind of struggling with that these past couple weeks, so we've really been focusing on that this whole week. Defending, keeping our shape, closing the gaps – just small things that we need to clean up."

Brockport heads into the match up 6-2-1 overall after splitting its first SUNYAC weekend against SUNY Fredonia and Buffalo State. The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 loss against the Blue Devils at home, but bounced back to defeat the defending conference champion Bengals, 3-2.

Brockport has averaged around two goals per game, while conceding less than a goal per contest. Maddie Siclare in just seven games played leads the team in goals (four) and points (eight), while Molly Graves and Kimberly Lubanski have split time in net, with Lubanski seeing slightly more time after averaging a .855 save percentage.

"I know in the past year's Brockport has been a very good game," said SUNY New Paltz senior goalkeeper Cordero. "It has always been very close. It is a game that we normally play hard and work very hard. They are a tough team, but I think that we will have a good shot against them."

The Knight have been impressive thus far in 2017. They have yet to lose a match at 7-0-1, with their only tie coming against Farmingdale State. They've conceded just two goals all season and have averaged 2.4 goals per game.

Geneseo is led by Audrey Reid (five goals, four assists) and Domenica Piccoli (five goals, two assists) up top. Both are huge factors in the No. 9 nationally ranked Knights success and they will be difficult to defend, but the Hawks are looking forward to the match up and aim to contain the two strikers.

"Geneseo is really good this year," Cordero said. "Coming in they've got a pretty good record, but I think that if we stay compact and we listen to what coach tells us, and execute what we need to do, we'll be able to come out with a win."
