Box Score Purchase, NY – The one hour and 15 minute delay did not stop the State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team from grabbing its first win of the season against the Panthers of SUNY Purchase. After putting some pressure on early, the Hawks forced an own goal from Purchase in the eighth minute and never looked back, walking away with a 3-0 victory.
Following the own goal SUNY New Paltz continued to control the pace of play, and in the 20
th minute, Sebastian Gordon-Somers-Archer notched his first goal of the season off a beautiful cross in front of the six by Kevin Doorly. Gordon-Somers-Archer rose above the defenders and the goalie to get his head on the cross and knock the ball into the back of the net.
The Hawks stayed in control the rest of the half, but couldn't capitalize on any other opportunities taking a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Just four minutes into the second half lightning stopped the game and killed the momentum for SUNY New Paltz. After over an hour long delay it was time to finish the game and the Hawks continued where they left off.

Within two minutes of play resuming,
Aleco Podias scored off a cross from
Jared Sparks to extend the lead for the Hawks to 3-0. Although the opportunities never stopped for SUNY New Paltz, out-shooting the Panthers 16-2, it finished the game with three goals.
Head coach
Kyle Clancy was pleased with the team's resilience and ability to perform after the weather delay. "It was a good result based on the circumstances," said Clancy. "It's not easy to come back and get in the game after that delay. The intensity and their ability to stay in the game was good and overall it was great whole-team effort."
The defense also shined for the Hawks. They allowed only one shot on goal during the entire game and conceded just three corner kicks, while attempting 11 of their own.
The Hawks now stand at 1-2 overall and travel to Utica on Saturday and Sunday to face off against SUNY Cobleskill and Utica College.
