Buffalo, NY — After setting a new conference record in the 200-yard individual medley Thursday, State University of New York at New Paltz sophomore
Cooper Knapp broke another SUNYAC and program record as he recorded a time of 3 minutes, 59.67 seconds in the 400-yard individual medley to meet NCAA B-cut qualifications.
Knapp's performance was just one of many strong showings for the Hawks men's and women's swimming teams during the Friday installment of the SUNYAC Championships.
SUNY New Paltz sophomore
Chelsea Angulas also won an individual event, finishing first in the 100-yard backstroke (58.32) , while junior
Nicole Lee (59.31) and sophomore
Samantha Woll (1:00.15) finished third and fourth, respectively. Three more Hawks swimmers placed in the B-final, as freshman
Tessa Griger (1:02.68), freshman
Natalia Giunta (1:02.83) and senior
Lindsay Feminella (1:03.97) finished 11
th, 12
th and 16
th, respectively.
SUNY New Paltz had three swimmers finish in the top eight in two other events. Senior
Chad Plante placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 58.93 mark, while seniors
Colin Duell and
Kevin Sales recorded times of 1:00.41 and 1:01.45 and finished fifth and eighth, respectively.
In the women's 100 breaststroke, Hawks junior
Katie Donlevy led the way with a third-place finish (1:07.93), while freshman
Lindsay Kranitz (1:09.07) and senior
Megan Joseph (1:09.42) placed sixth and seventh, respectively.
Donlevy also finished fifth in the 100-yard butterfly with a 58.61 reading, while senior
Molly McCulloch placed 11
th with a time of 1:00.19 and Griger finished 15
th with a 1:02.77 mark. SUNY New Paltz junior
Jaimie Kaefer notched a third-place finish in the 400 individual medley with a 4:38.42 reading.

Senior
Barrett Celecki was the first Hawks swimmer to complete the 200-yard freestyle, finishing ninth with a time of 1:45.10.
Both teams' 200-yard medley relay squads notched second-place finishes. Knapp, Plante, senior
Caleb Treadwell and freshman
Nolan West recorded a time of 1:33.21, while Angulas, Donlevy, McCulloch and Lee finished with a 1:46.91 mark.
The SUNYAC Championships will conclude Saturday, with the first event following preliminaries being the 1650-yard freestyle.
