SUNY New Paltz Swimming Competes at Franklin & Marshall College Invitational

| By:
Lancaster, PA - The State University of New York at New Paltz men's and women's swimming teams traveled to Franklin & Marshall College for a quad meet, where they defeated Cabrini College, but fell to Franklin & Marshall and Dickinson University.

"We had a couple of decent swims, but it was a classic right before champs meet for us," said head coach Tom Eickelberg. "We were also missing four of our top scorers due to the flu so it was tough to show up, but we had some good performances."

With multiple swimmers sitting out the meet, Eickelberg used the opportunity to have his student-athletes cover different events than they usually do.

The meet began with the 200-yard medley relay where both the men and women put up solid third place finishes. Chelsea Angulas, Molly McCulloch, Megan Joseph, and Nicole Lee teamed up for a time of 1:54.62 out-touching the fourth place team by over two seconds. On the men's side, Marc Piliero, Colin Duell, Chad Plante, and Kevin Sales came in at third place with a time of 1:41.69.

Barrett Celecki turned in a season-best time in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:48.06 finishing in second place. Celecki also put up a solid performance in the 500-yard freestyle with a third-place finish and a time of 5:01.22.

31167Nicole Lee had a good meet on the women's side placing fourth in the 100-yard backstroke and helping the 400-yard freestyle relay team to a second-place finish in the final race of the meet. Lee teamed up with Angulas, Sarah Crespo, and Kaleigh O'Halloran for a time of 3:46.03, barely missing a first-place finish and losing out to a Franklin & Marshall team by less than one second.

The 400-yard freestyle relay was also one of the top events for the men as the team of Celecki, Sales, Caleb Treadwell, and Nolan West touched third with a time of 3:20.41.

The Hawks closed out their regular season and now have three weeks to prepare for SUNYAC Championships in Buffalo, NY on Feb. 22-24.
