Box Score Box Score The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team started off their spring break trip in Florida with a 6-3 loss to Nichols College. The Hawks yet again showed their strength in singles, but poor doubles play hampered the team's ability to pull out the win.
SUNY New Paltz entered singles play down 3-0 after dropping all three doubles matches. However, senior co-captain
Carol Tyson set the tone in singles play with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory at second singles.
Victoria Zezula followed in her footsteps at sixth singles, picking up a 6-0, 6-1 win. Freshman
Jenna Grandville notched the third and final point for the Hawks at third singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Courtney Koran dropped a tight match at fifth singles in a third-set super-tiebreaker with a final score of 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.
Brittany Grandville and
Emi Lewis lost at first and fourth singles, respectively, both with scores of 6-4, 6-1.
"We couldn't win a doubles point so that was disappointing," said head coach
Rob Bruley. "But we played very well in singles and I was pleased with their efforts."
