Box Score Saratoga Springs, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team suffered its second-straight overtime loss Wednesday, falling on the road at Wagner Park to Skidmore College, 2-1.
"We can't expect to win any games when we only play with 15 minutes left on the clock," said Hawks coach
Shanna Szablinski. "We struggled with the simple things and were not disciplined on our set plays."
Gabby Hyman opened up the scoring for the Thoroughbreds (3-3), capitalizing off a corner on the left side played in by Marissa Folts with Emily Richmond also earning credit for an assist on the play 22 minutes into the first half.
SUNY New Paltz (4-3) picked up its performance in the second half and answered in the 57
th minute. Out of a timeout by Skidmore,
Maggie Cottrell won the ball back in the Thoroughbreds offensive half. Following an ensuing foul, the senior back had a quick re-start and found
Rachel Beam running into the circle, who beat her defender and placed her shot past the goalkeeper to tie the score at one.
The game ended in regulation tied at one apiece, which forced a 10-minute overtime. Mariah Redler put away the game-winner about four minutes in to claim the, 2-1, victory for Skidmore.
The Hawks and Thoroughbreds were fairly even in most statistical categories Wednesday. SUNY New Paltz held the advantage in shots (15-14), but Skidmore had mores shots on target (10-9). The Thoroughbreds also earned 10 corners to the Hawks' eight.
Ryan Dowling earned the start in net for SUNY New Paltz and recorded eight saves.
