Box Score Oneonta, NY – With the State University of New York at New Paltz tennis team trailing hosting SUNY Oneonta three matches to four heading into the final two singles matches of the afternoon, sophomore Courtney Koran and senior Lindsay Haley came up big for the Hawks, earning 6-4, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-2 victories in fifth and sixth singles, respectively, to catapult SUNY New Paltz to a 5-4 win over the rival Red Dragons.Lindsay Haley GIF

"This was a huge win," said Hawks coach Rob Bruley. "It will go a long way in helping us secure a high seed at the conference championship."

The match, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday and was moved to Friday due to rain, was a battle between two of three remaining undefeated teams in the State University of New York Conference (SUNYAC).

SUNY Oneonta (10-1 overall, 3-1 SUNYAC) was coming off a convincing, 8-1, win over Hartwick Thursday, while also dropping just just two games in their last four matches. Friday, after the Red Dragons earned a first-doubles victory, SUNY New Paltz snatched a doubles win with its second team of Victoria Zezula and Haley, who defeated SUNY New Paltz's Mya Lipscomb and Olivia Fraser, 8-2.

Freshmen Trinity Chow and Laura Koob gave the Hawks two more wins in first and second singles, respectively. Chow battled to a 7-6 win over Julieta Eulau in the first set to then take a 6-3 win in the second to earn the victory, Koob, meanwhile, handled her opponent, Alyssa Brault, winning, 6-3, 6-2.

"Solid performance from first and second singles and second doubles which laid the foundation for a solid win against an undefeated Oneonta," Bruley said.

Zezula and Grandville fell in third and fourth singles, respectively. Zezula lost 6-0, 6-1 to Libscomb, while Fraser defeated Grandville, 6-2, 6-3.

Chow and Koob extended their match against Eulau and Brault, but couldn't pull away with the win and fell, 9-7, in first singles. The Red Dragons' Madeline Carswell and Rebecca Macdonald then defeated Koran and Emma Messenger in third doubles, 8-2.

The Hawks (3-0, 3-0) are back home Saturday when they host Plattsburgh State (6-2, 1-1) in their final home match of the season. To stay up to date with everything #NPHawks be sure to follow on Twitter at @nphawks, Instagram and Facebook at @newpaltzhawks, and subscribe to our Youtube channel,New Paltz Hawks.
