Box Score Binghamton, NY--- The State University of New York at New Paltz took a step closer in clinching the top seed in the conference playoffs Friday, as it defeated a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe and previous undefeated SUNY Geneseo, 8-1.

Trinity Chow and Laura Koob opened the doubles matches with an 8-0 victory at first doubles, while Onalee Batcheller and Alexandra Dratch ended doubles matches with an 8-1 victory in third doubles to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead heading into singles play where they dominated.Â
Chow and Koob each won 6-1, 6-0 at first and second singles, respectively. Victoria Zezula won 6-1, 7-5 at third singles and Jenna Grandville earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at fours. Batcheller (6-3, 6-4) and Alex Chimenti (6-4, 6-4) won at fifth and sixth singles, respectively, to clean up singles play for SUNY New Paltz.Â
"[It was a] match that we had to grind out, after going to singles up 2-1 after doubles," said Hawks coach Rob Bruley. "A very solid performance from our singles lineup."
SUNY New Paltz is not done in Binghamton, as the Hawks will face Fredonia State at 10 a.m Saturday.
