Box Score Ithaca, NY --- The State University of New York at New Paltz tennis team's perfect streak continues as the No. 19 regionally ranked Hawks earned a 5-4 victory over hosting Ithaca College Friday at A&E Center at Glazer Arena.
"It was extremely close match from the bottom of the ladder," said SUNY New Paltz coach
Rob Bruley. "We really came through in singles and first doubles scored a valuable point… It was a very [nerve wracking] match, but we found a way to win."Â
Trinity Chow and
Laura Koob gave the Hawks their only doubles victory of the afternoon, which proved pivotal in a tight match. The duo defeated the Bombers' Caroline Dunn and Kathryn Shaffer 8-7.
SUNY New Paltz then received wins in second, fourth, fifth and sixth singles. Koob rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Sara Steinberg in second singles, while Haley took sixth singles easily, 6-0, 6-0 over Shannon Wolfe.
Jenna Grandville earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory from Rel Klein in fourth singles, while
Courtney Koran won at fifth singles over Chloe Levy, 7-6, 6-2 in a back-and-forth first set.
Chow narrowly escaped with a win in first singles, but couldn't snatch away the three-set victory. She battled to a 7-6 first set victory, but dropped the second 3-6. The momentum shifted from one side to the other in the deciding third set, but ultimately Ithaca's Brianna Ruback took the 12-14 set victory to win the match.
The Hawks are back in action April 10 when they travel to take on Stevens Ducks for a 3:30 p.m. match. To stay up to date with everything #NPHawks be sure to follow us onÂ
