SUNY New Paltz Women's Tennis Earn 7-2 Win Over George Fox University

| By:
Box Score Orlando, FL — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team closed out its spring break trip with a 7-2 win over George Fox University Thursday to keep its undefeated record alive.

"Great way to close out a very successful spring break trip going 4-0," said Hawks coach Rob Bruley, whose team also defeated William Smith College (5-4), Springfield College (5-4) and Goucher College (8-1), while in Florida. "Played against a very resolute George Fox team that put up tough opposition."

Freshmen Laura Koob and Trinity Chow earned an 8-1 win in first doubles, while each also claimed a victory in second and first singles, respectively. Koob defeated the Bruins Sophia Lawrence, 6-2, 6-1, while Chow defeated Jillian Studer, 6-1, 6-3.

Lindsay Haley and Victoria Zezula finished off an 8-4 win in second doubles for the Hawks, while Haley rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory in sixth doubles over George Fox's Megan Wilks.

Although the Hawks dropped a game at third doubles, they won five of six singles matches to register their 12th win of the year and keep their unbeaten streak alive.

Jenna Grandville grinded out a three-set win over Danielle Brown in fourth singles, earning a 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 victory, while Courtney Koran notched a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Emily Brink in fifth singles.

"Freshmen again led the way winning at first doubles and first and second singles," said Bruley. "Another strong performance from bottom of the singles lineup."

SUNY New Paltz (12-0 overall, 7-0 SUNYAC) heads back north to finish the regular season against Ithaca College, Stevens Institute of Technology, Manhattanville College and Union College. If the Hawks continue their winning streak, especially against quality opponents when they're back home, they'll have the chance to earn a seed in the NCAA Tournament, which would be the first in program history.

"It's huge. Now the pressure is on us every match," said Bruley of going undefeated on the week. "Ithaca is going to be tough, but if we beat them the NCAA will have to look at us at being seeded."

The Hawks are back in action March 29, as they hit the road to take on Ithaca College in a duel match at 3:30 p.m.
