Box Score Brunswick, ME — Ending a historic 18-0 run, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team lost in the second round of the NCAA tournament to the Massachusetts institute of technology, 5-0 Saturday.
 
"Fantastic season, they left it all out there and gave a great account of themselves and our program," said Hawks coach Rob Bruley. "I'm very proud of each and every one of them." 
 
SUNY New Paltz had trouble gaining momentum from the beginning of the match, falling down early in the doubles sets. The Hawks number one doubles partners, freshmen Trinity Chow and Laura Koob, lost 8-2 to the Engineers Libby Rickeman and Viktoriya Tabunshchyk. Senior Lindsay Haley junior Victoria Zezula followed with an 8-0 loss to MIT's Megan Guenther and Marina Zhang in second doubles.
 
After sophomores Jenna Grandville and Courtney Koran dropped the last doubles match 8-2, SUNY New Paltz could only finish two of its singles matches. Grandville lost to junior Lara Rakocevic (0-6, 3-6) while Koran lost to freshman Ashley Teng (1-6, 3-6).
 
In the unfinished matches, Chow lost to Rickeman 4-6, 3-3 in first singles. Koob lost to Tabunshchyk 4-6, 2-2 in second singles, Zezula lost to Zhang 3-6, 0-4 in third singels and Haley lost to Guenther 0-6, 4-2 in sixth singles to end the match without a win.

The shutout loss to the 17-3 and No. 19 nationally ranked MIT Engineers marks the first loss in SUNY New Paltz's 18-1 season. Haley is the only Hawk that will graduate this year.
