New Paltz, NY -- The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team announced its incoming class for the 2019 season. The Hawks had a disappointing 2018, winning only two games overall and only one conference match. They are looking to add eight student-athletes to help build momentum going into the 2019 season and third-year head coach
Mike Eckberg is excited in what all eight individuals can bring.
"This is a very dynamic class that we have put a lot of sweat equity into over the last 18 months," he said. "We could not be more excited to welcome these eight student-athletes and know they will support our drive to be a championship caliber team. The degree of character between each individual, their academic success and commitment to excellence is first class. We believe the class of 2019 will make an immediate impact this upcoming fall."
The touted incoming class will all fight for ample playing time, as SUNY New Paltz looks to compete in a deep State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) and clinch the program's first postseason berth since 2012.
"We look forward to working with these exceptional student-athletes and have high expectations for this class," Eckberg added. "New Paltz Women's Soccer is excited to kick off the 2019 campaign."

Katie Buquicchio
Deer Parks High School
Deer Park, NY
--
Buquicchio is a talented midfielder who has played against top tier competition, coming from a high-level club team in SUSA. Along with her technical ability, she has a very high soccer I.Q. and the quality and range of her distribution is one of her biggest assets. Her ability to adapt and play multiple roles will be a huge benefit for the Hawks in 2019.
Jillian Dantona
Smithtown High School West
Smithtown, NY
--
Another sound player in the midfield, Dantona is possession focused and will fit in perfectly in SUNY New Paltz's style of play. She will be a steady presence in the midfield and will add depth at the position. She has a great technical base and reads the game well to help manage her pockets in the midfield. Dantona played club soccer for Brentwood.
Siena Diaz-Colon
Floral Park Memorial High School
Floral Park, NY
--
Diaz-Colon is a crafty and creative attacking player, along with being incredibly versatile. She can play multiple roles in the attack and will be an immediate upgrade for a Hawks offense that generated just six goals last season. She is sound in tight spaces, has a great attacking mentality and the confidence to make something out of nothing. Diaz-Colon, who played club soccer with Gold Coast FC, is technically sound and has a degree of quickness that is deceptive.
Ally Donovan
Fairpoint High School
Fairpoint, NY
--
Donovan is a gifted overall player, who has tremendous technical ability. Donovan, who played club for the Rochester Rhinos, is shifty on and off the ball, and knows how to take players on 1-v-1. She, along with Diaz-Colon, will help boost SUNY New Paltz's attack, as she too can play multiple roles and fits well within the Hawks' system due to her versatility. According to Eckberg, he and his staff believe Donovan can make an immediate impact on the program.
Jess Funke
Smithtown High School West
Kings Park, NY
--
Funke, a solid, physical defender, who played club with East Meadow in Smithtown, NY, has the ideal size and physicality to battle against fellow SUNYAC opponents. She can play virtually any position in the back line and according to Eckberg will, "supplement our defensive initiatives well."
Victoria Maffettone
Sayville High School
Sayville, NY
--
Maffettone is an incredibly dynamic forward that has exceptional pace and will be a consistent threat in the Hawks' attack. She has a sound attacking mentality and combines well with others, while also having the necessary grit to be impactful in the SUNYAC. Playing club soccer with SUSA, Maffettone has a great left foot that can be utilized in the run of play and on set pieces -- an area SUNY New Paltz looks to immensely improve on heading into the fall.
Jessica Reck
Clarkstown North High School
Congers, NY
--
Another incoming attacking player for the Hawks, Reck has a tremendous work rate, distributes the ball well and has the unique ability to play a final ball that makes her a consistent threat. Eckberg raved about Reck's selflessness and ability to make those around her better on and off the ball. She is a tireless worker on both sides of the field and always looks to make the extra pass. Reck played club soccer with Clarkstown Soccer Club.
Dana Salinas
Locust Valley High School
Locust Valley, NY
--
Salinas is an efficient midfielder who has a very sound technical base overall. She understands and can dictate tempo and rhythm, something SUNY New Paltz will likely want to build upon this fall. She has a high tactical I.Q., manages her pockets on the field well and will help build the Hawks attack with her ability to combine with others, change the point of attack and initiate the offense. She has the potential to be a staple in SUNY New Paltz's midfield over the course of her four years. Salinas played club soccer with Gold Coast FC.
