SUNY New Paltz Tennis Ready to Defend SUNYAC Title in 2019

| By:

SUNY New Paltz tennis is coming off a great 2018-2019 season that included a conference championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Hawks coach Rob Bruley is confident going into the 2019 season and is sure New Paltz will, "have a target on their backs".

With New Paltz losing only one senior from last year, Lindsay Haley, the Hawks come back strong with a lot of their talent that brought them to a NCAA tournament only a few short months ago. schedule

Senior captain Victoria Zezula, sophomores Trinity Chow, Laura Koob, freshman Onalee Batcheller, and junior transfer from rival SUNY Oneonta Emma Messenger are all headlining the Hawks' starting rotation this season.

Along with the starting talent, SUNY New Paltz will have plenty of depth to help the team succeed throughout the season. Alex Chimenti, Alexandra Dratch, Kathleen Mangan, Jenna Grandville, Ava Sweeney, and Jessica Reich will all give the Hawks the strong depth they will need in order to win another SUNYAC championship and make another run in the NCAA tournament.

The Hawks will begin their season in Cortland for the Cortland Tournament Saturday. They will open up at home against RPI on Sept. 11 at 3:30 p.m. SUNY New Paltz will then play Vassar before it starts its stretch of games against conference rivals Oswego State, SUNY Cortland, SUNY Oneonta at home, SUNY Geneseo and Fredonia State before finishing up the regular season against The College at Brockport.

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) playoffs will take place on Oct. 12 and 13 in Binghamton.
