GAME PREVIEW: SUNY New Paltz Women's Soccer Hosts Mount Saint Vincent

| By:

The State University of New York New Paltz women's soccer team will look to pick up back-to-back wins for the first time this season on Saturday when it takes on Mount Saint Vincent in a 1 p.m. match on New Paltz's South Turf. group

The Hawks enter the game coming off a thrilling 2-1 win over Bard and hold a record of 2-4-1 in 2019. A win for SUNY New Paltz would give them more wins than it had in all of 2018.

Hawks junior goalie Megan Tornatore said, "Wednesday's win over Bard was huge. We're really excited to keep our momentum going into Saturday and into SUNYACs."

The Dolphins come into New Paltz with a record of 3-1-1 including victories over Gwynedd, Lehman, and City College of New York and a draw with Western Connecticut State. Mount Saint Vincent's sole lose came against New Jersey City on Sept. 10. The Dolphins have four players tied for the team lead in goals scored with two in Kacey Brown, Cristina Britton, Caitlin May, and Hannah Eschmann.

"Right now we are really feeling the support of each other," Hawks freshman forward Siena Diaz-Colon said. "We've been really uplifting, and we have so much energy right now because we're finally feeling like ourselves. We're really connecting with each other."

SUNY New Paltz has not lost a game at home in 2019. The Hawks shut out SUNY Old Westbury on the South Turf Field, 9-0 before tying Skidmore in an exciting overtime matchup two weeks ago. In order to stay unbeaten at home, SUNY New Paltz will have to be efficient in its attack.

"We're going to have to win our individual battles, use the flanks, and complete our crosses in the final third," said Tornatore.

Siena Diaz-Colon GIFDiaz-Colon has scored one goal in 2019. It came in the Hawks' 9-0 victory over SUNY Old Westbury. She will look to get back on the scoreboard and help her team earn its third win of the season.

"I think if we use the outsides and can get through balls in, we'll be able to score some goals," she said.

Saturday's contest against the Dolphins will be the Hawks' last game before entering SUNYAC play on Sept. 28 when SUNY New Paltz takes on the Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta.
