The State University of New York at New Paltz tennis team is slated to open up its regular season and conference play against Plattsburgh State Saturday at 1 p.m.
After a strong showing at the Cortland Tournament this past weekend and coming off last season's conference championship and NCAA appearance, the Hawks are looking to make another push for a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title.
"We are looking forward to this weekend. It's actually the first match-match that counts, it's really important to us. We are really prepared for this," said SUNY New Paltz sophomore Trinity Chow, who will play at first singles and first doubles. "We just want to get off to a good start in conference. We had a great season last year going undefeated the whole season, so we are trying to get back to that right now."
Last season, the Hawks defeated Plattsburgh, 9-0 at home and will look to get off to a hot start again against the Cardinals, this time they will be on the road.
"Having the last year SUNYAC champions start up their season up there, they're gonna be fired up," said SUNY New Paltz coach Rob Bruley. "So as long as we prepare right this week and go in there with the right attitude, no complacency, get the job done, I'm hoping for a nice weekend of tennis and a great way to open up the conference championship."
