The State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team looks to close out its SUNYAC season unblemished Thursday afternoon on its home turf with a matchup with SUNY Oneonta. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday on the North Turf, but due to weather and field conditions the matchup was pushed two days.Â
The New Paltz-Oneonta series dates back to 1969 with the Hawks holding a 17-11 lead. Most recently, the SUNY New Paltz defeated the Red Dragons 4-2 in 2019.
Oneonta enters Thursday's SUNYAC regular season finale with an overall record of 3-10 and a conference mark of 2-3. The Red Dragons recorded their biggest win of the season last Saturday with a dramatic 3-2 victory over the Lakers of Oswego. Morgan Fleming's winning goal at in the 57th minute kept Oneonta in contention for the final SUNYAC playoff spot.
Fleming (Jr., Harpursville, NY) leads the Red Dragons with seven goals and one assist and two game winners, including Saturday's over Oswego. Senior Alexa Ryan (Yorktown, NY) follows with two goals, two assists and one game winner; junior Sophia Little (Northport, NY)has one goal and three assists; senior Emily Raymond (Deposit, NY) follows with two goals and one assist. 
Senior goalie Kristy Campana (Melville, NY) played all 60 minutes in Saturday's win. In 11 starts, she has given up 29 goals with a 3.05 goals-against-average and 79 saves.
SUNY New Paltz won a pivotal SUNYAC game last Saturday, a 3-1 victory over always competitive Geneseo to up its overall record to 12-2 and a perfect 5-0 in SUNYAC. Sophomore Hannah Ackerman (Nesconset, NY) tallied a goal and an assist, giving her a season total of 10 goals and 25 points, tying her with sophomore teammate Morgan Woolley (Blue Point, NY) for points, as the latter has registered a team-leading 11 goals with three assists. Juniors Julia Cummings (Mohegan Lake, NY) and Natasia Plunkett (Holland Patent, NY) have six goals and six assists, and seven goals and three assists, respectively. Senior Jessica Ascencao (Mohegan Lake, NY) is tops with 10 assists and joins four other pliers with three goals each. Three additional Hawks have contributed one goal each on the season.
Senior goalie Ryan Dowling (East Northport, NY) played all 60 minutes against Geneseo, giving up a late fourth quarter goal, but lowering her goals against average to 1.04 with 42 saves on the season.
SUNY New Paltz are set to host Oneonta on the North Turf Field Thursday at 3 p.m.
