SUNY New Paltz Field Hockey Game Preview: Oswego State

In the wake of their tough 4-1 loss at the hands of the No. 4 nationally ranked Kean University Cougars Tuesday night, the State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team looks to continue its quest to regain the SUNYAC field hockey championship with a road game against the Lakers of Oswego Saturday afternoon. The Hawks hold a commanding 16-4 overall record against the Lakers, including 11 consecutive wins, including 2019's 6-1 victory.
 
Oswego comes into the match with a 6-3 overall record and are 1-0 in the SUNYAC following a 5-0 victory over Morrisville State. The Lakers are 0-3 against common opponents, losing to the University of Rochester, St. John Fisher and Wednesday nights heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Utica, while the Hawks earned wins against each of those teams.
 
Oswego is led offensively by junior Kaitlyn Mastracco (Rome, NY) with 11 goals; junior Kacie Simzer (Clinton, NY) and first-year Nancy Paglliaroli (Yorktown Heights, NY) each have six goals, and senior Alyssa DeMichael (Wappingers Falls) follows with five.

Between the pipes, junior Erin Scheblein (Bayville, NY) has played all 540 minutes so far, giving up 11 goals for a 1.22 goals-against-average with 42 saves and six shutouts.
 
SUNY New Paltz, owners of a 4-0 victory in its SUNYAC opener against The College at Brockport, sport a 6-2 overall record. Offensively, SUNYAC/PrestoSports Offensive Player of the Week Morgan Woolley (Blue Point, NY) has six goals and three assists to her credit. Three juniors, Julia Cummings (Mohegan Lake, NY) — five goals and two assists — Natasia Plunkett (Holland Patent, NY) — five goals, one assist — and Jamie Wagner (Cicero, NY) — two goals — have powered the Hawks. Six other players have each contributed one goal to the SUNY New Paltz offense.
 
Defensively, senior goalies Mackenzie Mortimer (Fairport, NY) and Ryan Dowling (East Northport) have a combined for a 1.88 goals-against-average, with Mortimer starting seven of eight contests, holding a 6-1 record, with one shutout, 32 saves and a 1.99 goals-against-average. Dowling has started one game and seen significant action in five others, allowing five goals with 16 saves and a 1.69 goals-against-average.
