The United Volleyball Conference (UVC) announced its annual preseason poll Wednesday with the State University of New York at New Paltz landing tied for second with NYU, while defending conference champions, Vassar College earned the top spot.
Voted on by all eight head coaches in the UVC, the Hawks and Violets both received 38 points with SUNY New Paltz earning one first place vote. The Brewers received 46 points including six first-place votes.
The Hawks finished a shortened 2021 season at 7-4 overall, going 6-2 in the UVC with losses coming against St. John Fisher and ultimately falling to Vassar in four sets in the conference championship game, which also ended their NCAA title defense as well.
Following the Brewers, the Hawks, and NYU were the Cardinals at No. 4, MIT at No. 5, Nazareth at No. 6, Elmira at No. 7 and Bard at No. 8.

SUNY New Paltz opens up the 2022 season Jan. 14 across the country in California, opening up with a pair of matches against Westcliff and Stevenson University. Its first UVC matchup lands on Feb. 9 at home against Bard College.
