Geneva, NY — The National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced its annual Division III All-Region selections for the 2022 season Tuesday and among 190 honorees the Hawks were awarded three to the NFHCA All-Region III team including seniors
Natasia Plunkett,
Shannon Bernhardt and junior
Hannah Ackerman.
Division III teams are split into six regions with each group honoring 16 student-athletes on first team and 16 on second team. Plunkett and Ackerman were awarded their second-straight first team accolade, with Plunkett ending her career with three-straight trips to the all-region team being named as a second team selection as a freshman in 2019, while Bernhardt enjoyed her first all-region selection, earning a spot on second team.
Plunkett adds the all-region honor to a long list of postseason accolades, being named First Team All-SUNYAC, along with the program's second ever SUNYAC Offensive Player of the Year selection and was named as a NFHCA Senior All-Star. She finished the season with a team-leading 15 goals and 33 points, while adding three assists and four game-winning goals while starting all 17 games in 878 minutes played.
Ackerman was also a First-Team All-SUNYAC selection in consecutive years, while garnering her second First Team All-Region honor in her second season. The Nesconset, NY native was moved from forward to center midfield this past season and was critical for the Hawks on both sides of the ball. She finished with five goals and a team-leading 10 assists on the year with 20 points, along with one defensive save as she started in all 17 games, logging 955 minutes on the field, second-most for the Hawks.
Bernhardt returned as a graduate student for SUNY New Paltz, as the two-time SUNYAC Champion played out her fourth competitive season after her 2021 campaign was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. In turn, the Massapequa, NY native had her best season as a Hawk, finishing second-most on the team in goals (10), assists (6) and points (26) with three game-winning goals and a defensive save while starting in 16 games and logging 869 minutes of action.
The trio were joined by eight other selections from the SUNYAC, including first-teamers Hannah Corrigan (Cortland), Lily Fox (Cortland), Maggie Phipps (Geneseo), Hailey Roethel (Geneseo) and second-teamers Kierra Ettere (Cortland), Sophia Little (Oneonta), Erica Scheblein (Oswego), Kacie Simzer (Oswego) and Carly Wasczak (Oneonta).
The NFHCA will announce NHFCA Regional Players of the Year Nov. 30 and All-America selections Dec. 13
