Box Score Orlando, FL — The State University of New York at New Paltz ended its spring break trip with a 7-2 win Thursday on the USTA National Campus over Colby-Sawyer College.
"The team returned to the court with a strong 7-2 win over Colby Sawyer," said Hawks coach
Rob Bruley. "We took all three doubles matches with our No. 1 doubles team having to come from behind to win a quality match."
SUNY New Paltz won all three doubles matches, as
Trinity Chow and
Anya Barteck won at first doubles, 8-6,
Onalee Batcheller and
Alexandra Dratch won 8-4 at second doubles and
Isabel van der Veen and
Loretta Donovan helped complete the sweep at third doubles, defeating their opposition, 8-2.
Chow had to end her match early due to an ankle injury, which gave the win to the Chargers at first singles, but the Hawks earned wins at third, fourth, fifth and sixth singles. Batcheller defeated Elise Hogan 6-2, 6-2, van der Veen earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Amira Eid, Tatiana Barentt won 7-5, 6-0 over Lily Tria and Donovan defeated Margret Fox, 6-3, 6-4 to complete the scores three through six, respectively. Barteck lost her match at second singles, 6-3, 6-4.
The win marks the second for SUNY New Paltz during its four-game slate in Orlando, FL where they went 2-2 on the week, defeating a Colby-Sawyer team which won the GNAC conference championship this past fall.
The Hawks return to New York and will face Wilkes University for another non-conference matchup April 2 before it begins spring SUNYAC play April 9 against SUNY Plattsburgh.
"Really good experience for the team and it should put us in a great position for upcoming conference play," Bruley said. "We finished the week 2-2 and I think this week has been perfect preparation for the defense of our SUNYAC Championship."
