The United Volleyball Conference released its weekly awards Monday with State University of New York at New Paltz senior outside hitter
Chris Shanley earning his first UVC Player of the Week selection after leading the Hawks to two key road conference wins over NYU and No. 8 Vassar College last week.
Shanley joins teammates
Pat Wing,
Evan Kane and
Carter Lotz who were also recognized by the UVC for weekly honors this season as Lotz and Kane were named Rookie of the Week selections earlier this season.
Shanley, a 6-foot, 3-inch outside from Smithtown, NY, had a career performance in a five-set win over the Violets March 23. He recorded a career-high 20 kills, while hitting at a .333 clip and added an ace and a block to compile a career- and team-leading 21.5 points to lead his team to the win.
The Smithtown West High School alum backed up that performance with another impressive outing against the No. 8 Brewers. SUNY New Paltz needed the road win over Vassar to strengthen its positioning atop the conference standings in the hopes of grabbing hosting duties for the UVC Tournament. Shanley did all he could to make sure the Hawks came out on top, as he once again led the team in kills with 13 and added an ace and a block to help in a four-set victory to keep SUNY New Paltz undefeated in UVC action and atop the league standings.
The Hawks close out their regular season this week going on the road to face No. 1 Springfield on Wednesday before facing UVC opposition in Elmira and Nazareth College Friday and Saturday, respectively.
