Syracuse, NY —The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its spring Scholar Athlete of the Year awards Wednesday with Hawks junior
Onalee Batcheller being named as the SUNYAC Women's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year.
The SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year award is given to an individual in each respective sport who has shown both academic and athletic excellence. Recipients must carry at least a 3.30 GPA, be a starter of significant reserve player and at least a sophomore in academic standing. Batcheller, a former SUNYAC Rookie of the Year selection, was named First-Team All-SUNYAC in both singles and doubles play in 2022 and was crucial in helping SUNY New Paltz to its 20th-straight SUNYAC Championship appearance.
Batcheller was also named to the SUNYAC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll and the Hawks Academic Honor Roll for her efforts in the classroom.
On the court, Batcheller went undefeated in the SUNYAC in doubles play, going 8-0 at second doubles with partner
Alexandra Dratch. In singles play, Batcheller lost just once, going 6-1 as she locked down the third singles spot, while finishing 13-10 overall on the year in singles action.
