Jacksonville, FL — The State University of New York at New Paltz fell in the first match of the spring season down in Florida on Sunday. The Hawks fell 3-4 to Edward Waters University.
"Lost a real close match 3-4 to Edward Waters." Said coach Rob Bruley. "Our doubles matches came down to two close losses at number one and number two doubles. With number three doubles putting together a very convincing win. Going into the singles matches needing to win four of the six matches. New Paltz came up short with Ostrander and Sladicka losing narrowly in third set tiebreakers. We're looking forward to more stiff division two opposition moving forward."
Doubles: Sam Ostrander and Justine Stanejko played first doubles falling in a close 7-5. Patrycja Filonik and Olivia Kunz battled in their second doubles match, but ultimately fell 6-4 to the pair form Edward Waters. Nina Genzone and Angelica Gabriel swept their match 6-0 not letting up a single point against their third doubles opponents.
Singles: The Hawks won three of their singles matches. Filonik won her first set 6-3, and her second 6-1. Lula Brown-Vann won her first set 6-2 and her second set 6-3. Alex Krol won her first set 6-1 and her second set 6-0.
