Syracuse, NY — After the conclusion of the State University of New York at New Paltz's fourth straight championship season, junior
Olivia Kunz was named the 2025-26 SUNYAC Women's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year announced by the conference office Wednesday.
Kunz is the second Hawk to be given the honor in the calendar year, succeeding former teammate
Isabel van der Veen, who was awarded at the end of the Spring 2025 season. Van der Veen was also named as the SUNY Women's Tennis Scholar Athlete recipient with Kunz in the running for that honor as well. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.30 GPA or higher while being an exemplary student and athlete on their respective teams. The recipient must also be a sophomore, junior, or senior.
In the recent fall season, Kunz was named to the All-SUNYAC First Team for Doubles and the SUNYAC All-Tournament Doubles team alongside partner
Patrycja Filonik. Overall, Kunz went 3-1 in singles and 8-2 in doubles, while garnering an undefeated 6-0 conference doubles record. Her junior year success followed a stellar sophomore campaign, where Kunz was named to the All-SUNYAC Singles and All-SUNYAC Doubles First Teams, while also being awarded the SUNYAC All-Tournament MVP.
The New York City native impresses not only on the court, but in the classroom. Kunz, studying Psychology, posted a 3.92 overall GPA last semester. She is a four-time Hawks Academic Honor Roll recipient, a two-time SUNYAC Commissioner's List honoree and a Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society inductee.
