Eisert and Franklin Named United Soccer Coaches DIII Women’s Soccer Scholar All-American

New Paltz, NY — The United Soccer Coaches announced its 2024 Scholar All-America and All-Region teams with Hawks women's soccer senior forward Rachel Eisert and senior goalkeeper Maddie Franklin honored, marking the most selections in program history.

Eisert earned her second-straight Scholar All-America nod with a first-team selection after landing on second team last year, while Franklin ends her career with her first United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America recognition, landing on third team after the two led SUNY New Paltz to a record-breaking season. Additionally, Eisert was a first-team United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-East Region pick, while Franklin landed second-team All-East honors.

There were 90 student-athletes across the country, spread across four regions (East, North/Central, South and West) that were selected to a region team with only 33 selected to the All-East from three different teams, which included just 10 on first team. No other student-athletes from the SUNYAC were selected.

Thirty-eight Scholar All-Americans were named, 16 on first, 11 on second and 11 third team.

Eisert, a communications disorders major, re-set all milestones for the program as she leaves as the most decorated Hawk in program history. She was named to her second-straight SUNYAC Offensive Player of the Year nod after leading the conference in points, breaking her own single-season program records in goals and points, and leaves as the team's all-time leader in both categories along with all-time assists. She received her third-straight United Soccer Coaches All-Region nod before becoming just the second ever All-America pick for SUNY New Paltz and the highest ever, receiving first-team honors.

Franklin, a psychology major, was the cornerstone of SUNY New Paltz's stingy defense. The most reliable goalkeeper in the conference by far, Franklin proved she was one of the best at the position in the country as she was named as the team's first ever SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Year, while going on to receive First-Team United Soccer Coaches All-Region III honors. And now, she joins Eisert as the only two United Soccer Coaches Division III Scholar All-American's in program history.

Most notable, the two were pivotal in captaining the team to its best season to date, setting new records for overall (15) and conference (8) wins, and winning percentage (.800) while capturing the first ever regular season SUNYAC title in program history, earning the No. 1 seed and hosting duties for the first time. They then took advantage of the opportunity by achieving what they had set out from the beginning — winning a SUNYAC Championship and did so in front of a large home crowd on South Turf Field. They defeated rival and defending champions, SUNY Cortland 2-0 to earn just their second ever conference title in program history and second trip into the NCAA Tournament. Eisert and Franklin were both named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament team, while Eisert was named tournament MVP.

The United Soccer Coaches Scholar Athlete award recognizes student-athletes that model the highest standards of ethics and sportsmanship, is a junior or senior in athletic standing, must have maintained a 3.4 cumulative GPA or higher throughout their career, play a minimum of 75 percent of their games this past season and be an elite player supported by honors: i.e. All-American, All-Region, minimum all-conference.
