BUFFALO, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz swim teams were on the road today for day one of the 2024 State University Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The meet is being held at the Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center at Erie Community College.
The first day of the championship meet featured two scoring relays. The men finished second in the 200-yard medley relay (Jack Wirth, Luke Hoyt, Steven Macaluso, and Venn Engstrom) in a time of 1:33.24. The women finished sixth in the 200-yard medley relay (Sage Vadney, Shannon Corr, Sierra DePry, and Molly Snyder) with a time of 1:57.08. The men would also finish third in the 800-yard freestyle relay (Korey Barber, Alex Gorzula, Luke Hoyt, and Antonio Vavalle) in a time of 7:03.21. The women finished fourth in the 800-yard freestyle relay (Sierra DePry, Abigail Dusseault, Amanda O'Brien, and Taylor Pazderski) with a time of 8:14.08.
"Starting off SUNYACs both the Men's and Women's teams showed high energy on deck cheering for their teammates while they raced in the 200 Medley, and 800 free relay. The men had an outstanding showing tonight in both their relays and the women dropped showed impressive drops in their events as well. With a battle in the 800 free relay! Which was very exciting to watch.," said Head Coach Nolan Graziano.
The Hawks will return to action tomorrow, February 22, for day two of the SUNYAC Championships at the Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center at Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY.
