Poughkeepsie, NY – The State University of New York New Paltz cross country program started its season on the road Friday afternoon at the annual Vassar Season Starter.
The women ran a 3k and the men ran a 4k at the Vassar Farm with both sides finishing fifth out of the seven teams present at the meet. The men totaled 147 points landing them behind Union who finished in fourth with 80 points. The women ended the day with 133 points, just 28 behind Stevens who took fourth place.
Evan Miller crossed the finish line first for the Blue and Orange in 24th place. Miller finished in 13 minutes, 3.2 seconds with an average mile time of 5:19.1.
Gavin Bowers was not far behind, snagging 36th by .2 of a second. His average pace was 5:27.5 minutes per mile, earning him a 3k time of 13:34.0.
Vincent Mandraccia was last Hawk to break the finish line in the first 50 competitors. The senior captain crossed the line with a time of 13:52.3, averaging 5:34.8 minutes a mile.
Brandon Gardner and
Aiden Hesseltine crossed the finish line back-to-back, earning 53rd and 54th place, respectively. Gardner finished the race with a time of 14:24.7, averaging 5:47.9 minutes per mile. Hessltine ran a 14:27.4, averaging 5:49.0 a mile.
Anthony Willis finished 57th with a time of 15:43.7, averaging a 6:19.7 minute mile.
Joe Palazzolo finished not far behind Willis, in 59th. His 6:23.2 mile pace earned him a final time of 15:52.5.
Marcella Candlin crossed the line first for the Hawks. With an average mile time of 6:14.8, Candlin finished in 21st place earning herself a final time of 11:38.8.
Mackenzie Barcomb finished next for SUNY New Paltz in 29th place. Barcomb averaged a 6:28.5 minute mile throughout her 12:04 minute race.
Lillian Stephenson and
Crystal Rustami earned themselves a spot in the top forty runners to finish the race. Stephenson finished in 12:16.6 minutes averaging 6:35.1 minutes per mile. Rustami finished with a time of 12:25.9 and a mile pace of 6:40.1.
Orquidea Briceno,
Alexandra Swink and
Jazmyne Daily-Simpson flew across the finish line together, earning 42nd, 43rd and 44th, respectively. Briceno finished with a time of 12:35.1 and an average mile of 6:45.0. Swink finished in 12:40.2 averaging a 6:47.8 minute mile, followed by Daily-Simpson with a 6:48.8 mile and a final time of 12:42.2.
Allison English crossed the finish line with a time of 13:15.0 and an average mile time of 7:06.4, earning herself 52nd place.
Hunter Larson wasn't too far behind, finishing in 55th with a time of 13:40.9 and an average time of 7:20.3 minutes per mile.
Another nest of Hawks flew to the finish line together earning 57th through 61st and 63rd place.

Mikayla Cecora,
Alice Adamo,
Ava Nargentino,
Serafin Maier and
Sam Maendel rounded out SUNY New Paltz harriers. Whiteaker crossed in 13:44.2 minutes with a 7:22.1 mile. Cecora clocked in with a time of 13:45.3, with a 7:22.7 mile. Adamo was next with a 13:53.7 and a 7:27.7 mile. Nargentino finished in 13:53.7 minutes with an average mile pace of 7:34.8. Maier crossed next with a 14:08.1 final time and an average of 7:34.9. Maendel finished in 14:28.5 minutes and average 7:34.9 minutes per mile.
The Hawks will return to action next Friday, 5 p.m., at home for the New Paltz Invitational Meet at the Milton Dome in Milton NY.
