New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz hosted TCNJ and Union College Saturday on North Tennis Courts for a singles and doubles scramble-style tournament.
The Hawks took a break from dual-match action and saw steady play from each person in the lineup Saturday, which included four wins in singles action and six wins in doubles.
"Great playing all around today," said SUNY New Paltz coach
Rob Bruley. "Our team came up against tough opposition in singles and doubles. We claimed some great wins today and had some amazing doubles points showing great determination."
Justine Stanejko and
Isabel van der Veen highlighted the afternoon for the Hawks, as the pair didn't drop any match on the day. They defeated TCNJ in their first game, 6-3 before battling through a 7-6 tie-break against Union for another victory. They then concluded a perfect, 3-0 day with a 6-1 doubles win over another pair of Lions foes.

Nina Genzone and
Olivia Kunz, SUNY New Paltz's typical third doubles partners, also played well as they took a 6-2 win over TCNJ in their opening match but fell in their second game also against the Lions, 6-1 before suffering a 6-1 defeat against Union.
Amirah Alston and
Alyssa Trokie won 6-3 against TCNJ as they split their two matches on the day.
In singles action, Stanejko and
Angelica Gabriel swept their matches against TCNJ, 6-0 with Kunz earning a 6-2 victory over Union.
Olivia Eifert, meanwhile, earned a win in her singles matchup, grinding out a 6-4 victory over the Lions.
SUNY New Paltz resumes dual-match action Wednesday when it hosts RPI at 3:30 p.m. on the North Tennis Courts.
