Cortland, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz competed against SUNY Cortland Saturday, falling on both the men's and women's sides, 166-85 and 162-83, respectively.
On the men's side,
Antonio Vavalle had a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.50. He had his second, second place standing in the 100-freestyle with a time of 50.83, just behind first-place (50.49).
Jack Wirth won the 200-backstroke, touching first in 2:04.44, while also earning a second-place finish in the 100-backstroke with a time of 57.33.
Jack Samko touched second in the 50-freestyle (22.53) and in the 100-butterfly (55.12).
Samuel Debbie won the 400-individual medley with a time of 4:53.22, edging out Cortland's second place finisher who touched in 4:54.31. SUNY New Paltz's 400-freestyle relay team of Wirth, Samko,
Paul Castner and Vavalle placed first with a time of 3:26.48.
For the women,
Candela Sandoval touched first in the 200-butterfly, dominating with a time of 2:26.16, which was 11 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
Brianna Law came in second in the 100-freestyle with a time of 1:03.37, while
Chloe Jeffares wasn't too far behind, placing third with a time of 1:03.98.
Sage Vadney placed second in the 200-backstroke, clocking in with a time of 2:28.41.
Erin Donovan secured first in the 400-individual medley, clocking in at 5:46.57.
The Hawks' 400-freestyle relay team of Molly Synder, Law,
Abigail Keiser and
Naomi Levey came in first with a time of 3:40.23 with SUNY New Paltz's second relay team of
Sophia Bucci,
Annabella Perez Salvi,
Jayme Fink and Jeffares coming in with a time of 4:20.91.
SUNY New Paltz is back in action Jan. 18, closing out its home meet schedule against Ramapo at 1 p.m. in Elting Pool.
