New Paltz, NY — The United Volleyball Conference announced its weekly winners Monday with Hawks freshman outside hitter
Nikko Tenedorio earning his first UVC Rookie of the Week selection, earning Co-ROTW honors alongside MIT's Shawn Zheng.
Tenedorio helped SUNY New Paltz to two wins on the weekend in a tri-match hosted by Poly. He averaged 4.5 kills and five points per set while hitting .556 in the two victories over the hosting Wildcats and Houghton Saturday. He led the Hawks with a match-high 14 kills, hitting .478 with an ace, four digs and a match-high 15 points in a four-set victory over Poly. Needing to play just a set in a sweep over the Highlanders, Tenedorio was 4-for-4, hitting a perfect 1.000 and registered an assist and an ace.
On the year, the Bay Shore, NY native paces SUNY New Paltz offensively with 97 points through seven matches with 83 kills, 10 aces and hitting .268 thus far.
The Hawks are back in action Wednesday for their home opener against Kean in the Hawk Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
