Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its weekly athlete of the week selections Monday with Hawks senior goalkeeper
Gail Comiskey earning her second defensive player of the week honor of the season.
Comiskey, who was named SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and third time this season, had one of her best games of her career Tuesday when the Hawks hosted No. 1 nationally ranked Christopher Newport.
The Captains had the ball in SUNY New Paltz's defensive half for the majority of the game and Comiskey stood on her head, tying a career-high 15 saves. The game was scoreless through 40-plus minutes until Christopher Newport was awarded a penalty stroke. Comiskey guessed correctly on the stroke, but the shot was hit with enough pace, ricocheting off the post and into the cage, giving her no chance on the stop. She didn't let up another score the rest of the way with the Hawks falling, 1-0 in a valiant effort. Comiskey ultimately saw 28 shots, 18 of which were on goal, for a .938 save percentage.
The Patchogue, NY native got the start Friday against SUNYAC opponent SUNY Morrisville and helped in the 9-0 shutout, making one stop on the only shot she faced in 30 minutes of action. She ended the weekend with a save percentage of .941 with a goals against average of a minuscule, .67.
