Cortland, NY – The State University at New Paltz swimming program competed in day two of the Snow Flurries Mid-Season Invitational at Cortland State on Saturday. At the end of the meet the women placed third, earning 636 points. The men end the meet in third place with 632 points.
The team of Alex Gorzula, Deniz Gurcan, Jack Samko and Antonio Vavalle touched third for the men in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:43.11. Sebastian Maldonado, Dylan Esposito, Hayden Brock and Max Ceasar touched fifth with a time of 4:13.24.
The women's team of Sophia Bucci, Brianna Law, Alexis Egbert and Erin Donovan touched third with a time of 4:24.67. Jaina Bischof, Jayme Fink, Madeleine Tothero and Jade Fontanez placed sixth for the Hawks earning a couple of points with a time of 4:45.06.
Gorzula earned his secord race of the meet, touching first in the Men's 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:21.75. Donovan touched second with a time 5:14.14. Fink touched seven seconds after Donovan with a time of 5:21.24, earning third.
Samko earned first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.92, touching the pads first by over a second. Gurcan touched third with a time of 55.04 earning third. Brock placed seventh with a time of 56.20. Egbert earned her second race of the meet, touching first with a time of 1:01.95. Tothero (1:08.18), Athena Sage (1.13.64) and Annabella Perez Salvi (1:28.27) touched fifth through seventh adding more points to the board for the Hawks.
Vavalle touched second in ten 200-yard free with a time of 1:49.30. Esposito touched eleventh with a time of 2:06.44. Bucci touched second for the women with a time of 2:07.11. Fink touched ninth with a time of 2:13.81.
Nicholas Ahlborn placed ninth in the men's 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.09. Law touched first, earning the event with a time of 1:14.78. Fontanez earned eighth with a time of 1:36.25.
The Hawks earned third through fifth in the 100 backstroke. Maldonado touched first with a time of 1:04.34. Mickey Leach touched milliseconds behind with a time of 1:04.55. Ceasar touched fifth one millisecond behind with a time of 1:04.56. Bischof touched fifth with a time of 1:08.85.
The men's team of Ahlborn, Brock, Vavalle and Samko touched with a time of 1:32.05, earning third in the 200-yard freestyle. The women's team of Donovan, Law, Bischof and Egbert also touched third with a time of 1:48.94.
Vavalle earned first in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:33.38. Bucci touched second with a time of 20:06.87.
Hayden and Ahlborn took fifth (51.49) and sixth (51.65), respectively, in the men's 100 free. Egbert took first by a second, with a time of 57.14.
Gorzula earned first in the men's 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:10.05. Gurcan touched fifth with a time of 2:21.48.
Samko touched first in the men's 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.27. Brock touched sixth with a time of 2:12.16. Tothero touched fourth with a time of 2:33.10.
Gorzula, Ahlborn, Samko and Vavalle touched first in the men's 400- yard relay with a time of 3:17.13. The women also earned third. The team of Bucci, Egbert, Law and Donovan, touched with a time of 3:52.12.
The Hawks will take a break as the athlete's enjoy their winter recess and return to the pool in January when the Hawks host the Cortland Red Dragons in a dual meet on Jan. 10th.
