Box Score Albany, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz tennis program lost to Union College 6-1, on the road Friday.
Doubles: Justine Stanejko and
Isabel van der Veen won their doubles set 6-2. Angelica Gabirel and
Sydney Sladicka fell 6-2, losing the match.
Nina Genzone and
Olivia Kunz fell 6-0.
Singles: Stanejko won her match after going 6-4 in both sets. Sladicka fell 6-0 in her first set and tried to battle back but fell short going 6-2 in the second set. Kunz fell 6-1 in her first set and 6-0 in her second.
Gabriel fell 6-2 in her first singles set and 6-1 in her second, losing the match.
Alyssa Trokie fell 6-1 in both sets, dropping the match as well. Genzone dropped her match after falling 6-3 in the first set and 6-2 in the second.
"Solid performance all around to start off the weekend against a strong union team" said coach
Rob Bruley. "The highlight was the win at #1 doubles with Justine and Isabel playing exceptionally well closing out the match 6-2. This was one of their strongest wins of the season. Another highlight was Justine winning singles, having one of her strongest wins of the season closing the match out on a strong note. Look forward to Senior Day tomorrow versus RIT where we hope to close out the regular season with a strong performance."
The Hawks will return home to host the Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday for Senior Day.
