SUNY New Paltz Hawks Tennis Fall 5-2 at Home

Box Score New Paltz, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz tennis program lost to the Stevens Institute of Technology Wednesday afternoon 5-2. 
 
Doubles: Justine Stanejko and Isabel van der Veen fell in their doubles set 6-2. Angelica Gabriel and Sydney Sladicka fell 6-2, losing the match as well. Nina Genzone and Olivia Kunz also fell 6-2 to the Ducks.
 
Singles: Stanejko fell 6-1 in both of her sets, losing the match. Sladicka fell 6-2 in her first set, battled back 6-1 in the second and took the tie breaker, winning 10-6. Van der Veen won her first set 6-0 but fell 6-3 in the second set. Van der Veen fell 10-5 in the third set, losing the match.
 
 
Kunz won her first set 6-3 and her second 6-4, taking the match for the Hawks. Gabriel fell 7-5 in her first set but battled back winning the second 6-2. Gabriel fell 10-5 in the third set and the Ducks took the match. Alyssa Trokie played the final match for the hawks falling 6-3 in the first set. Trokie won the second set 6-4 but fell 10-7 in the third.
 

"As in the past years our match with Stevens came down to fine margins" said coach Rob Bruley. "With NP down 1pt in the doubles we showed real strength of character in the singles with 4 of the 6 matches going to 3rd set tie breakers. Unfortunately, we came up short in 3 of the 4 tie breakers but I was really pleased with the way we continually competed throughout the match. Great performance from Syd Sladicka at #2 singles and Olivia Kunz winning at #4 singles."

 
The Hawks will return home to host the Rochester Institute of Technology on April 19th
