POUGHKEEPSIE, NY —The State University of New York at New Paltz men's and women's cross country team(s) were in action today for their final meet of the spring season at the Vassar Spring Invitational hosted by Vassar College. The day's competition featured the regular NCAA order of track events minus the 10000m. The Hawks end the academic year where it all started back in August at Vassar. Today's meet was a non-scoring NCAA track and field meet. Temperatures hovered in the mid to low forties with steady rain throughout the afternoon and evening.
On the women's side Adelyn Ameigh-Coggen and Mary Toner ran in the 3000m steeplechase. Ameigh-Coggen finished with a seventh-place finish and a time of 13:33.47. Toner finished with a ninth-place finish and a new personal best time of 15:06.98. Lillian Stephenson, in her final race as a Hawk, finished in twenty-sixth in the 1500m with a time of 6:03.97. Adelyn Ameigh-Coggen finished in third place in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 1:16.73. Alexandra Swink finished seventeenth in the 800m run with a time of 2:37.46. Anastasiya Kadomtseva-Sobczak and Carolina Cuello finished twenty-eighth and twenty-ninth respectively in the 800m. They posted times of 3:03.33 and 3:05.05 respectively, and Kadomtseva-Sobczak earned a new personal best. The final event of the day for the hawks was the 5000m run. A trio of Hawks took the track with Orquidea Briceno finishing in fifth place with a new personal best time of 18:40.60. Hunter Larson, in their final race as a hawk, finished eighth in a new personal best time of 18.56.69. Rounding out the hawks in the 5k was Juliana Vanorden finishing in eighteenth with a time of 21:49.67.
Brandon Gardner finished fourth in a time of 11:50.64 in the 3000m steeplechase. Evan Miller finished twenty-fifth in the 1500m with a time of 4:29.24. The 5000m featured five of the Hawks with Oliver Melara-Perez, in his last race as a hawk, leading the way with a season best time of 15:53.83 for tenth place. Next was Mike Harbord in twelfth place with a time of 16:02.55. Aiden Hesseltine ran a new personal best time of 16:22.64 for fifteenth place. Joe Palazzolo, in his final race as a Hawk, followed close behind in sixteenth place with a new personal best time of 16:28.66. Anthony Willis rounded out the hawks' squad in the 5k with a new personal best time of 16:37.90 finishing in seventeenth place.
Today's meet marks the final competition of the school year for the Hawks cross country team(s). They will return next school year for the start of the cross country season on September 5 at Bard College, in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
