SUNY New Paltz Cross Country Shines at Day Two of the Silfen Invite

Hawks Post Multiple Personal Bests at Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, CT —The State University of New York at New Paltz men's and women's cross country team(s) were in action today for day two of the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College. The second day's competition featured the regular NCAA order of track events. The Hawks took on a challenging field of fellow Mideast Region teams. Today's meet was a non-scoring NCAA track and field meet.

Brandon Gardner was first up this morning with the 3000m steeplechase finishing third in a season best time of 11:48.84. Mike Harbord, fresh off his appearance in the 5000m elite race last evening, competed in the 1500m. Harbord finished sixth with a new personal best time of 4:27.04. Jack Sherman was in action for the 400m dash finishing in a time of 55.94 for thirty-seventh place. The 5000m featured five of the hawks with Oliver Melara-Perez leading the way with a time of 16:20.57 for seventh place. Next in the 5k was Anthony Willis in twelfth place with a new personal best time of 16:48.06. Joe Palazzolo followed close behind in fourteenth place with a time of 16:57.53. Corbin Smith and Aiden Hesseltine rounded out the hawks with times of 17:05.32 and 17:25.64 finishing in sixteenth and twentieth places respectively.

On the women's side Mary Toner started things off with a fourth-place finish and a new personal best time of 15:21.19. Orquidea Briceno, who also ran the 5000m elite race last evening, finished fourth overall with a new personal best time of 5:12.00. Adelyn Ameigh-Coggen finished in twelfth place in the 400m Hurdles. Ameigh-Coggen's new season best time of 1:14.52 in the 400m hurdles is the fastest in program history. Carolina Cuello and Anastasiya Kadomtseva-Sobczak finished twenty-fifth and twenty-seventh respectively in the 800m. They posted times of 3:00.11 and 3:09.98 respectively and Kadometseva-Sobczak earned a new personal best. The final event of the day for the hawks was the 5000m run. A trio of Hawks took the line with Marcela Figueroa leading the way in second place with a new personal best time of 20:12.01. Hunter Larson, one night after setting a new school record in the 10000m, finished sixth in a time of 21.20.40. Rounding out the hawks in the 5k was Juliana Vanorden finishing in ninth with a time of 22:04.86.


The Hawks will return on April 25, to cap off their spring season at the Vassar Twilight Invitational hosted by Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY.
