NEW LONDON, CT —The State University of New York at New Paltz men's and women's cross country team(s) were in action today for day one of the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College. The first day's competition featured the Silfen Elite Distance track events. A total of four Hawks qualified for the elite events including Mike Harbord, Orquidea Briceno, Hunter Larson, and Ava Nargentino. Today's meet was a non-scoring NCAA track and field meet.
Mike Harbord kicked things off with a forty-ninth place finish in the 5000m with a new personal best time of 16:00.75. Orquidea Briceno was next in the women's 5000m. Briceno finished twenty-eighth overall in a new personal best time of 18:44.80. The final event of the evening was the women's 10000m under the lights. Hunter Larson took seventh overall with a new school record and personal best time of 38:42.86. Larson now holds the top three times in program history in the 10000m. Ava Nargentino finished in twenty-eighth place in a time of 44:52.98 in the 10000m.
The Hawks will return tomorrow for day two of the Silfen Invitational at 9:30 AM in New London, CT.
