Box Score New Paltz, NY— The State University of New York at New Paltz fell 6-1 to Union College in a close match on Thursday afternoon.
"In one of our closest and toughest matches of our season the score line doesn't reflect how close this match was" says Coach
Rob Bruley. "After winning at #1 and #3 doubles to take the double point 4 out of the 6 singles matches went all the way to 3 sets. Unfortunately, we came up short in the singles match but I'm very impressed the way we stayed in the match and battled to the last point."
Doubles: Sam Ostrander and
Justine Stanejko played first doubles falling winning their match 6-2.
Patrycja Filonik and
Olivia Kunz played second doubles, falling 6-0.
Nina Genzone and
Angelica Gabriel won their match 6-3.
Singles: Stanejko played first singles winning the first set 6-1. She fell 6-2 in the second set and battled but fell 8-6 in the third. Ostrander played second singles falling 6-0 in the first set, winning the second 6-3 and falling 6-3 in the third.
Sydney Sladicka played third singles falling 6-4 in the first set and 6-2 in the second.
Filonik played fourth singles winning the first set 6-1, falling 6-4 in the second and 7-5 in the third.
Alex Krol played fifth singles falling 6-4 in the first set and 6-1 in the second. Kunz played the final singles slot of the day falling 6-3 in her first set and 6-0 in the second.
The Hawks head to Ewing, NJ to play their soon to be conference opponent TCNJ, on Saturday at noon.
